(Union Co) The Iowa State Patrol released the names of the people involved in the fatal crash in Union County.
According to the report, the accident happened at 10:48 p.m. Friday on Highway 34 and 190th Street. Authorities say 19-year-old Halsie Lynn Barnes of Tingley, Iowa died in the crash. Those injured in the accident are 19-year-old Ellen Jo Leonard of Winterset, a passenger in a 2017 Malibu driven by 19-year-old Madalynn Mae Stewart of Maloy, Iowa. Stewart and another passenger, 20-year-old Abigail Dawn Barnes of Lamoni, were also injured in the accident. Stewart was flown to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Leonard was air-lifted to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Ground ambulance transported Barnes to Methodist Hospital. The driver of a 2016 Ford F350 Pickup, Andy Merritt, and his passenger, 62-year-old Julia Ann Merritt of Seymour, were taken by private vehicle to their residence.
The Iowa State Patrol says the pickup was driven by Merrit eastbound on Highway 34, approaching 190th Street—the Malibu driven by Madalynn Stewart, failed to stop at the stop sign, entered the intersection, and collided with the pickup. Both vehicles came to rest in the north ditch.
