(Atlantic) Three people died, and two others were hurt in a two-vehicle accident north of Atlantic on Friday.
The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened at 12:50 p.m. on Highway 71 and Troublesome Creek Road. Authorities identified the deceased as 43-year-old Micheal Adam Warnaca of Exira, 46-year-old Erick William Kerkman, and a 15-year-old female juvenile both from North Liberty. The two people injured were a 10-year-old male juvenile from Exira and a 12-year-old male juvenile from North Liberty.
The State Police say a northbound 1999 Ford F350 pickup driven by Micheal Adam Warnaca for unknown reasons crossed the centerline and struck a southbound 2001 Toyota Camry driven by Erick William Kerkman of North Liberty.
Cass EMS transported the 10-year-old to Cass Health in Atlantic. Cass EMS transported the 12-year-old to the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
The Camry came to rest in the west ditch, and the pickup rolled, facing west on the west shoulder.
Michael Adam Warnaca, and the 10-year-old male juvenile, were not wearing seatbelts.
The accident remains under investigation.
