(Lewis) The Iowa Department of Natural Resources fields many questions regarding ponds and how to manage them.
Bryan Hayes, Fisheries Biologist with the DNR Office in Lewis, said one question he has received a lot lately relates to algae in ponds.
Hayes said that fertility is also what can drive the fish population in those small ponds.
He said right now you’re looking at the maximum growth of aquatic plants in lakes and ponds.
Hayes said there are herbicides that are approved for aquatic use to remove the plants, or you can remove them by hand.
