(Des Moines, IA) — Iowa Republicans are cheering the U.S. Supreme Court striking down President Biden’s student debt relief plan. On Friday, the High Court handed down a 6-3 ruling that said the Biden administration overstepped its authority with its plan. Governor Kim Reynolds praised the decision, saying it “protects the 87-percent of Americans without student debt from having to foot a 400-billion-dollar bill.” U.S. Senator Joni Ernst said the Supreme Court “rightly ruled that President Biden’s student loan socialism is illegal.” After the ruling, Biden said his administration will now look toward a new student debt relief plan by taking steps using the Higher Education Act of 1965.
