(Middletown, IA) — Around 150 Iowa National Guard Soldiers from southeast Iowa will deploy this fall. From the 831st Engineer Vertical Construction Company, the members will deploy as part of Operation Spartan Shield, which covers 27 countries, many of them in the Middle East. The unit will work on improving infrastructure in the region. The last time it was activated for federal service was in 2005.
