(Des Moines) The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services reports the state’s first case of West Nile virus this year. An adult, over the age of 60, in Plymouth County in northwestern Iowa is infected with the virus. Bites from infected mosquitoes are the most common way humans are infected with the virus. HHS says using insect repellent offers the best protection. Nine Iowans were diagnosed with West Nile last year. No deaths were reported.
