(Des Moines) The latest U.S. Drought Monitor shows drier conditions in southwest and western Iowa. This is compared to a couple of weeks ago when the dry conditions showed improvement following an active storm pattern across the region.
Alexis Jimenez, Meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Des Moines, says the dry conditions are not helping.
Jimenez says the culprit is a high-pressure system hanging over the Great Lakes Region.
The central and eastern portions of the state are not suffering as much, with patches of abnormally dry conditions with a moderate drought starting to creep into southeast Iowa.
