(Oakland) Riverside is expected to be in the mix for team trophy (top three team) at the girls state track meet this week.
The Lady Dawgs placed 3rd last year. Coach Jared Hoffman says their is excitement heading into the state meet and they approach things like a business trip. They have the potential to score in several events. “Some of our bigger events, the 4X1, 4X2, and 4X4 we have to come through and make sure we do what we are supposed to in those. We are going to hope to score in every event that we go in.”
Coach Hoffman believes it could take a total of 45 points to win it all and 40 points to finish in the top three. “We are going to try and score in that area. If all things go the way that we think they should I feel like we have a good chance of coming out with a team trophy this weekend.”
There a handful of contenders in Class 1A. “Really good teams that have spectacular individuals. Calamus-Wheatland and Nashua-Plainfield have some of the top runners in the state for distance and mid-distance. Fremont-Mills got in a ton of stuff for state. That’s really exciting for them. I think they are looking to do somethings special. You also have Bishop Garrigan. They are excellent in field events and hurdles. It’s kind of scoring where you can and trying to get some points away from others when you can.”
