Doug A. Howard, age 65, passed away on December 30, 2022, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa.
Douglas Allan was born on November 4, 1957, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of George and Sharon (Dollen) Howard. He graduated from Atlantic High School in the Class of 1976. Doug received his insurance license in 1986, and worked for Cherry Corner Agency for the next 31 years. He was a successful producer qualifying for many incentive trips including ones around the United States, several to European countries and multiple cruises. Over the years, he not only built business relationships, but also long-lasting, great friendships with his clients which remained through the years.
Doug had a passion for playing drums, something that he started during high school. Early on he joined a local group that loved jamming together, often in the Howard basement, and as an adult he was a drummer for several years in the music department at the Fellowship Church in Oakland, Iowa, where he attended. Doug had a strong faith and spread the word of Jesus Christ as a member of the Atlantic Gideon Camp through handing out the small Gideon testaments and visiting the Cass County Jail each week for many years witnessing to those incarcerated.
In 2002, he was married to Teresa, who he often referred to as the love of his life. The couple, loved to ride their Harley Davidson motorcycles and travel on various summer trips. Doug and Teresa were together for 19 years before she passed away in 2021. It was then that Doug became unable to care for himself and moved into long term care in January of 2021, and most recently lived at Caring Acres in Anita, Iowa.
One of Doug’s final wishes was to spend Christmas 2022 with his family at home, and that he did! He was able to attend the annual Howard Family Christmas in Atlantic in mid-December; a short time later catching pneumonia and taking a turn for the worse.
Doug is survived by his daughter, Christina Flipse and her husband, Scott of Omaha, Nebraska and their two beautiful daughters, Doug’s granddaughters, Adalynn, 5 and Charli, 3; parents, George and Sharon Howard of Atlantic; sister, Susan Fitzpatrick and her husband, Tom of Storm Lake, Iowa; brother, Mike Howard and his fiancé, Juli Kwikkle of Atlantic; sister, Michelle Howard, of Southwest lowa; aunt, Judy Howard of Omaha, Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
