(Audubon) A discussion about tax abatement between the Audubon County Board of Supervisors and representatives of the proposed AMVC Feed Mill located at the Hamlin Landus site was held this week.
A verbal agreement was previously reached, but nothing has been put in writing. Supervisor’s Chairman Doug Sorensen says it’s been added to the Urban Renewal Plan, bonding has taken place, and now a contract will be drawn up. “What we had verbally agreed to with them a year ago to get the feed mill was a 64% tax rebate over ten years. It starts at 100% and tails down to 20% in the tenth year.” Sorensen says, “Which leaves us 36% of tax revenues coming in as normal.”
The $20 million facility is expected to create 21 jobs. It is proposed to process 8.5 million bushels of corn per year.
In other news, Sorensen reports the M66 resurfacing project north of Kimballton is moving slower than expected. They were hoping to start pouring asphalt on Monday, but were delayed. “Sometime very soon they will start asphalting M66 for a four mile stretch north of Kimballton. Once they get that near completion they will start on F32 west of Highway 71. Between 71 and M66 and they are anticipating a mid-May start on that.”
Sorensen says fuel costs and other unexpected expenses led to a budget amendment from the Secondary Roads Department. There were $325,000 in increased expenses, but Sorensen says much of it will be offset by $250,000 in additional revenue that wasn’t budgeted for. Among that is $1,000 more in local option sales tax revenue which he refers to as an indication of the good things going on in Audubon County.
