(Avoca) The AHSTW School building addition and renovation project is set to begin soon.
The project includes adding five new classrooms on the west side of the High School. The High School music and band classrooms, Industrial Technology, Agriculture, Business Education and Family and Consumer Science classrooms will relocate to the new addition, allowing for renovation of the interior sections of the High School. In addition, new LED lighting and a new fire suppression system will be installed throughout the school.
Superintendent Darin Jones said the design process concluded in January and bids were requested for the project. However, they had to reject and rebid portions of the project as no bids were received for electrical services. The second bidding process was completed in late February.
Darin Jones said they are meeting today to start the planning process and sequencing of events. He said they are going to do everything they can to lessen the impact on classrooms.
Funding for the project will be covered by a voter approved 12.9 million dollar referendum as well as PPEL funds.
