(Red Oak) During a press conference with the Department of Public Safety in June, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds announced $100 million in school safety funding to support Iowa’s 327 school districts and 183 nonpublic and independent schools.
Montgomery County Emergency Management Coordinator Brian Hamman says one piece of the Governor’s school safety initiative is placing safety grade radios in all school districts in Iowa. He says they can press a large button to alert emergency responders if there is an emergency or a direct threat within the school district.
Hamman says the most significant advantage is the ability to have an immediate response.
The main focus is for use in case of an intruder, but the radios would also come in handy for immediate response to other emergencies.
