(Des Moines) The southern two-thirds of Iowa is under a Wind Advisory today from 1:00 p.m. this afternoon to 7:00 a.m. on Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service forecast, westerly winds of 25-to-35 miles per hour with gusts up to 55 miles per hour. Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Downed tree limbs could result in power outages.
Forecasters are also concerned about fire dangers across southern Iowa today, especially later this afternoon when the relative humidity values start to fall. The strong west winds and humidity levels of around 35-40 percent will produce very high fire danger. Any fires that may occur will be challenging to control.
