(Dallas, TX) The Iowa women’s basketball team will play for a national title on Sunday afternoon. The Hawkeyes took down defending champion and #1 seed South Carolina 77-73 on Friday.
Caitlin Clark set an NCAA Tournament Semifinal game record with 41 points. Iowa made 14/14 free-throw including four straight from Clark in the last :13. She added 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Clark scores Iowa’s final 13 points of the game. Monika Czinano went 6/8 from the field and hit all six of her free-throws for an 18 point night. Iowa led 22-13 at the end of the 1st quarter and rarely trailed.
The Gamecocks see their 42 game win streak come to an end. South Carolina lost the game despite outrebounding Iowa 49-25. The Gamecocks had a 26-5 edge on the offensive glass, but a Makenna Warnock offensive rebound for the Hawks with :14 remaining proved to be a pivotal play.
31-6 Iowa will face #3 seed LSU in the championship game on Sunday. The (33-2) Tigers topped #1 seed Virginia Tech 79-72 behind a big 4th quarter on Friday evening. LSU and Iowa square off at 2:30 p.m.
