(Guthrie Center) On Tuesday morning, the Guthrie County Board of Supervisors held a public hearing and approved the maximum property tax dollars for general and rural services.
Guthrie County Auditor Dani Fink says the proposed maximum rate for general services is 6.4, and for rural services, the maximum is 3.95. The Supervisors approved the proposed rates, and she emphasized the rates cannot go up but can be adjusted lower.
Dani Fink says initially; the County experienced some growth in assessed valuations from one year ago. Still, unfortunately, the County took a hit from what they were expecting due to a state error in the rollback percentages.
Fink says it is COVID catching up with them; vehicles and other projects were put on hold. Granted, the money was not being spent, but now those purchases and projects are catching up with the county.
Fink says the board of supervisors are realistic in regards to where the citizens of the county stand, and the supervisors are committed to not raising property taxes.
Meanwhile, Fink says the assessments residents will see here soon won’t apply until the 2024-2025 fiscal year.
