(Audubon) Audubon opens the 2023 girls tennis season on March 30th against St. Albert.
The Wheelers have 15 girls on the team this season. “It’s up a few from last year and a lot of new faces to the program. It’s nice to bring some girls into a brand new sport. We have some girls that played when they were younger and were off a few years and came back so we also really like see that.”
Coach McKenzie Nissen reports they’ve had a good week of practice. “Luckily we’ve been able to get outside this week. That’s better than the gym practice that we had last week. We are getting some of the new girls familiar with the court. It’s been a good experience to be outside in the spring weather.”
Audrey Jensen is back at the top of the lineup. “We have Audrey Jensen returning this year. She was our #1 last year and she’s a senior. She’s a really strong team leader and she’s been playing basically her entire life. We have some juniors on board. We have Gery Anderson and Ava Slater back from our varsity lineup last year. It’s always exciting to watch them play because they continue to grow every season.”
Coach Nissen admits they are keeping things simple early on. “A lot of our goals right now have been making sure we are going through some of the fundamentals with our newer players and making sure we have some routines set up to make sure we cover our basics every day at practice.”
