(Greenfield) Kaden Herr and Brandon Raasch are the two seniors for the Nodaway Valley boys golf team.
Coach Joel Klobnak expects another strong season from Herr who led the team in nine hole average last year at 45.50 followed by Bradley Gebbie’s 47.67. A breakout candidate is junior Landon Klobnak. “He’s been working his butt off all winter long. I have a feeling that it’s going to pay out when it comes to chipping and close game. We are going to do our best to really focus down on putting this year. That’s where he got in trouble the most last year. Combine all those together and I think he’s going to be one of the leading boys.”
Zac Gebbie is another key returner to the team while coach Klobnak expects Jack Jensen to make some progress. “Jack Jensen was always trailing the varsity. He played in a few and was JV in a few as well. He has grown tremendously over this last year and I think he’s going to be one of the front runners as well.”
They’ve got a dozen boys on the roster along with seven girls out for golf. “We are up from three last year. That’s due to Julie Hartman. They are excited not only to have a coach that is a female coach, but she is a phenomenal golfer and they see that. They are trying to work with her to get better. The attention for Nodaway Valley’s girls team is growing and I think we should be over ten next year.”
Ashlyn Gutierrez, Bella Hogan, and Lindsey Davis are the three returning players. “Ashlyn averaged 53 with Lindsey at 57 just behind her. I would say I think it’s going to be a battle between those two, definitely. The one we are most excited for would be Mallory Russell. She has shown some extreme potential.”
He says there are four newcomers that are pretty green, but they are excited to see what they can do. They’ll begin the season at home on April 3rd against Essex and Griswold.
