(Harlan) Harlan Schools Superintendent Jenny Barnett released a statement to Harlan School District Families today of an incident related to a district middle school teacher.
The statement reads: “We are writing to inform you of an incident related to a district middle school teacher. Late last week, school officials were first made aware of concerns and allegations being investigated by the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation regarding an employee related to professional and illegal misconduct. Upon receiving this report, the employee was immediately placed on administrative leave pending further investigation by the DCI and the District. The teacher has submitted his resignation for all teaching and coaching positions within the district, and the board will be acting on that resignation at a special meeting this week. While those allegations are certainly troubling, please know the safety and well-being of our students are always the District’s top priority. The District continues to cooperate fully with the DCI and law enforcement throughout the investigation.”
The Harlan School Board has scheduled a special meeting on Tuesday at 5:15 p.m. at the Harlan Community High School Boardroom. One of the items on the agenda is a closed session to discuss an employee resignation. Following the closed session, the school board is to receive, consider and take action on the personnel resignation.
