(Avoca) AHSTW is 14-2 in duals this season. Their final quad of the season will take place on Thursday.
The Vikings will close out the regular season against Red Oak, Harlan, and Kuemper Catholic. Coach Evan McCarthy says, “It should hopefully be a good night of wrestling. All the teams have a handful of good individuals. I’m excited for it. I think it’s going to be a good test for us. Hopefully the guys are excited for the challenge.”
AHSTW picked up three wins on Tuesday. They topped Riverside 51-28, Treynor 42-39, and Missouri Valley 39-32. “We wrestled pretty hard overall. We were able to sneak out a couple of close victories. All three of those duals were going to be really, really close. Outside of a couple of fortunate falls for us in that last dual I think all of them would have ended up being within 5-6 points of each other. Those close duals make for a good atmosphere. We were happy to come out on top in all three of them.”
This Saturday they’ll compete at the ACGC Tournament and then have a couple of weeks off to prep for the District Tourney. “It gives yout a little time if you’ve got any nagging injuries to maybe be able to afford some rest to try and make sure you are as healthy as possible for that district tournament. There are more opportunities to be at the state tournament. That’s kind of exciting. I think some kids will be happy there are 24 spots available instead of 16.”
