(Pottawattamie Co) The Oakland and Avoca Library Directors appeared before the Board of Supervisors this morning to ask for a revision in the funding request formula.
Kari Rose, Director of Eckles Memorial Library in Oakland, said over the last several years their funding has been going down.
For example, Rose said she has put in a STEM room and she has kids coming in after story hour to play in that room.
Serena Riesgaard, Director of the Avoca Public Library, said one thing she sees at her library is the aging population is looking for local resources.
Kari Rose noted that their libraries have patrons that use their computers, they put on a number of programs and they offer so much more.
Supervisor Jeff Jorgensen said that libraries are a great resource and this formula seems outdated.
Supervisors Chairman Brian Shea said they will need to do some budget studying and they could not make any decision today on the funding.
