(Griswold) Iowa Legislators convene on Monday morning for the 2023 Iowa legislative session with a more significant majority in both the House and the Senate. Republicans have already promised to debate significant changes to education.
Tom Moore, Republican District #18 Representative from Griswold, says many of the education reform bills up for debate did not pass the last session because they were tied to the “School Choice Bill.” Moore says one of those bills eliminates the categorical funds for K-12 education.
Moore says the change resulted from eliminating Collective Bargaining six years ago.
Moore says school districts have numerous funds specific to how they can spend that money, and many communities have high balances in certain funds because they can’t spend the money where it is needed. He says this will free up cash and free up the way superintendents and school boards spend their money.
