(Guthrie Center) Seniors Brock Littler and Ben Marsh have helped lead the ACGC boys basketball team to a 6-1 record.
Littler averages a team best 17.3 points per contest while Marsh is contributing 15 points per game. Charger coach Lance Kading says the team is starting to come together. “We have a lot of guys back from last year, but not a lot that had experience together on the court. We’ve kind of been working through some of the chemistry deals. Some of the younger guys have stepped up and had some really nice games. Brock and Ben have been pretty consistent for us. Getting everyone on the same page and getting them to fire on all cylinders. Still a work in progress, but we are getting there.”
Littler is coming off of a record setting night in the team’s 70-39 victory against West Central Valley. He made 8/20 from 3-point range. “We are probably going to start to see a lot more zone. Teams are playing 3-2 zone. We had Brock Littler off the ball and had him on the baseline running corner to corner. That was kind of our game plan with him being our best 3-point shooter. Try to get him as many looks as we could.”
Coach Kading says the holiday break allows them to throw in some new wrinkles for team they’ll face for a 2nd time. Coming up on Tuesday they’ll face DM Christian. “On paper they look pretty dang similar to us. They play at a pretty fast pace. They are really aggressive defensively and disciplined offensively. They always have pretty goo depth and they are disciplined enough that they aren’t going to beat themselves. I like the way we match up with them. I think it’s definitely a winnable game for us, especially being at home.”
They’ll find out what they are made of next week. In addition to facing DM Christian they also oppose Madrid and Exira-EHK. “DMC and Madrid are two of the top teams in our conference right now with us and Van Meter and Exira-EHK is 7-0, so it’s going to be a tough week.”
ACGC has a four game winning streak. In their victories this year they are averaging 69.3 points per game.
