(Guthrie Center) ACGC matches up with Panorama this Friday night. The Chargers are 5-1 and the Panthers are 1-5.
The Chargers last week found a way to win another close game. They beat Interstate-35 23-20 thanks to Brock Littler’s 20 yard field goal in the final minute. “The kids just persevered as always. We’ve won a lot of close games.” Matthewson says, “Kicked a field goal to win a game. Brock Littler stepped up.”
Coach Cody Matthewson’s team has four wins by five points or less this season. In addition to the game winning field goal, Littler delivered 163 rushing yards in Week 6. Despite having to replace a lot of talent from last year’s roster, ACGC is sitting in a very similar position to where they were a season ago. “We have to go to Panorama on Friday and we are competing for basically a district title. Our goal is to go 1-0 this week. If we can take care of business we guarantee ourselves a home playoff regardless of the outcome and what happens in what could be a district championship game against Van Meter.”
ACGC broke a three game losing streak against Panorama last year when they trounced the Panthers 70-0. “We have to focus on Panorama and going to Panora. That’s going to be a game where records are thrown out the window. That’s a 365 day bragging rights game. It is very important we make sure we are focused.”
ACGC’s lone loss was to a Greene County team that has already clinched the Class 2A, District 8 title. That Rams are ranked 6th this week by the Associated Press.
