(Atlantic) The Atlantic School Board approved the release and settlement draft agreement centered around the 2021 Atlantic Middle School Fire.
Atlantic Schools Superintendent Steve Barber said the agreement the board has access to, which is not a public record, was part of a motion filed with the Atlantic Community School Districts’ name on it.
Mr. Barber read the following statement at Wednesday’s special school board meeting.
On July 27, 2021, a fire started on the roof of the Atlantic Middle School, causing significant water damage to the structure’s interior. The State Fire Marshall’s Office investigated the blaze and reported it accidental. School District officials relocated the sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade students and students at the Achievement Center during the reconstruction process, which took the entire 2021-2022 school year.
