(Atlantic) Atlantic School Officials opened the doors to the public on Friday afternoon to show off the newly reconstructed Middle School.
On July 27, a roof fire caused significant water damage to the structure’s interior. The repair work started immediately, forcing school administrators to re-located the 6,7th and 8th students to makeshift classrooms.
Atlantic Middle School Principal Scot Aden says teachers are excited to get back into the classroom.
Atlantic Schools Superintendent Steve Barber looks back on that hot day on July 27, standing north of the school and watching 30-foot flames shooting from the rooftop. Barber says there were three or four inches of water on each floor, and 85 percent of the wood floors were damaged,
Barber compliments the students, parents, staff, and community members for their resiliency throughout the process.
The classrooms look new and modern with new ceiling tiles, a fresh coat of paint, new furniture, and new carpet.
Mr. Barber says the classrooms are ready for the first school day on August 23.
