(Avoca) The AHSTW School District starts the school year with an entire educational staff.
Schools Superintendent Darin Jones says the district had a few departures and added some teaching positions in different areas. “The one position we’ve been extensively looking for is an early childhood preschool teacher,” said Jones. “We are fortunate we had a candidate with interest, and her name is Monica Fichter, and the School Board approved Fichter’s contract at a Special meeting on Monday night.
“We were nervous we would have to reduce our preschool sections from three down to two,” said Jones. “We are excited, staffed educationally, and ready for the year.”
Jones says they are looking for a long-term substitute bus driver for a regular route and one additional car route driver.
Teacher Shortage is a nationwide problem. According to research by the Economic Policy Institute, the current shortage is trending to a national shortfall of qualified teachers that could reach 200,000 by 2025.
