(Avoca) After two years at Southwestern Community College in Creston, former AHSTW baseball player Joel Sampson will continue his career at a four year program.
Simpson College will be the site for the remainder of Sampson’s eligibility. “I decided to pick this school ultimately because it was the one that felt right. Prayed about it and thought about it a lot and obviously it is a big decision where you are going to spend the rest of your collegiate career, so I’m very happy with it and it all just felt right.”
The catcher and outfielder thoroughly enjoyed his two year stint with the Spartans. “It was the best two years of my life.” Sampson says he’ll forever be indebted to his coaches and teammates, “It was just an incredible experience. I can’t even put it into words. I’m forever thankful for it.
He lists mental toughness among the key areas of development through his junior college experience. “I walked on campus and for me it was just an opportunity to continue to play baseball for a couple of more years and if I didn’t feel like being a college baseball player it was only two years long. I got about a month into it and I realized the dream of junior college is getting out of junior college. I really bought into that ideology. For the last couple of years the first thing I would think about every day when I woke up was getting out and getting myself to a four year university to play baseball.”
