(Atlantic) A change order and the final pay application were approved this week for the Atlantic Community School District’s Athletic Facilities Improvement Project.
In April 2019 the passing of a $9.5 million bond issue paved the way for football, soccer, track and field, baseball, softball, and tennis facility upgrades. The board recognized the completion of those enhancements during a special meeting on Thursday afternoon. “It’s been going on for three years. We anticipated it being more of a two year project and it ended up being a three year project, but we did get finished and we have great facilities. We are blessed to have those done.
Superintendent Steve Barber admits there’s still work to be done on the grass. “We are in the process of getting a drill seeder. We are going to work really hard this fall to get seed in the ground so it has the opportunity to get a good stand before the weeds take over. They did take over at the high school and some of the neighbors over there recognized that we had six foot weeds. So we are going to fix that and continue to work on the grass for the baseball and softball field. There’s a few weeds in there, but the grass stand has gotten a lot better.”
