(Griswold) Officials with Noble Initiative Foundation held a press conference this morning to discuss the fundraising progress for the Griswold Childcare Development Center.
Jared Wyman, President, said thus far they have raised nearly 70-percent of the project through private donations and grant funding. The Noble Initiative Foundation was formed in 2018 after the Noble Center United Methodist Church closed its doors and donated the remaining funds to develop a local childcare center serving Griswold families and the surrounding communities.
2.3 million dollars needs to be raised to cover campaign costs, building construction and some initial operating expenses. So far, 1.6 million dollars has been raised; that leaves 684-thousand dollars to reach their campaign goal. Volunteer teams will continue to seek private donations, write for grants, and hold fundraising events. However, the community and surrounding businesses are invited to pledge their support. Donations can be sent directly to the Noble Initiative Foundation, PO Box 103, Griswold, Iowa, 51535. Volunteers are also needed to help host events, write Thank Yous, help plan facility furnishings and creating policies, hiring staff and soliciting donors.
Karla Wilson said she decided to volunteer because finding childcare is stressful and more options are needed. Wilson said she has talked to a lot of families who feel lucky if they get a spot in a daycare, or even get put on a waiting list.
Wilson said having a daycare in town means the kids will get to stay in town and it will keep the community strong.
The new Childcare Development Center will be located south of the Griswold School Football Field and Bus Barn on east side of Harrison Street. Construction will begin this fall and the facility is set to open in the summer of 2024. The 8,800 sq. ft. facility will have four classrooms and a half gymnasium and will be capable of serving up to 100 children from six weeks old to four years old, including a separate area for before and after school care for elementary age kids. The childcare center will provide year-round child care, including full-time, drop-in, and before/after school care.
