(Audubon) Key repairs to the Audubon swimming pool could be getting closer to reality.
City Clerk Joe Foran says the initial estimate for a major upgrade was $1.5 million, but for the time being they’ll address $400,000 worth of the most necessary repairs. “It was built in 92-93 so a lot of the mechanical equipment is original. There are some spots where concrete slabs have sunk in so it needs mud jacking. The drain tile that goes around the decking is crushed in some areas and needs replacement. There’s ventilation issues in the boys and girls locker rooms that need to be done.”
Keeping the project at or under $400,000 can ensure the approval of a bond issue. “They will bond for $400,000. Past $400,000 it needs to go to a vote. They are going to bond for $400,000 because it was an estimate of $300,000-$400,000 to do the bandaid fixes. It was a total of $1.5 Million to do some upgrades as well to make it more comparable to other pools.”
Eventually they would like to make the pool zero entry to incorporate the baby pool which is non-compliant and not being used.
