(Atlantic) The Atlantic School Board lists Mental, Competitive Wages, School Safety, and Teacher recruitment as the four priorities for the 2022-2023 School year.
Atlantic School’s Superintendent Steve Barber says each year, the Iowa Association of School Boards requires school districts to list their top priorities for the following school year.
Barber says Mental Health has risen to the top because of COVID and many other societal struggles. Barber says the district has three mental health professionals on staff.
Barber says the district will offer a comprehensive health program. Some of the services include; increased access to in-school and telehealth visits, increased access to mental health professionals, and ongoing teacher, administrator, and support staff training to improve the awareness and understanding of child emotional and mental health needs.
