Ilene Joy Parkhill, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Mother’s Day–Sunday, May 8, 2022.
Ilene was a native of Iowa where she taught Elementary Education after graduating from Morningside College. She married Kenneth Parkhill August 28,1960 and they lived on the family farm in Oakland, Iowa with their two children (Jim and Karlene) where they raised crops, cattle and horses.
Ilene worked as the Secretary for the Oakland United Methodist Church and then as a Medical Receptionist for Dr. Charles Pigneri until she retired. She was an active member in Eastern Star and Farm Bureau. She made friends with everyone she met and her smile would brighten any room.
In 2012 when she was diagnosed with cancer; Ilene sold the family farm and moved to Stafford, VA to be close to Karlene and her family.
Ilene was an avid sports fan, thoughtful, generous, selfless and her family was very blessed to have her in their lives.
Ilene was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Kenneth; parents, Arthur & Hazel Anderson, and brother, Arlyn Anderson.
Ilene is survived by her sister, Hollyce (Bob) Neumeyer; sister-in-law, Betty Anderson; son, Jim (Nancy) Parkhill of Louisburg, KS; and daughter, Karlene (Jim) Fernow of Stafford, VA.
Grandchildren from the Parkhill side: Nathan (Deb) Parkhill, Nicholas (Cally Jayne) Parkhill, Mitchell (Beth) Parkhill, Jamison (Emily) Parkhill and Great Grandchildren: Isabella, Landyn, Wyatt, Allisyn, Julia, Charlie and Theo.
Grandchildren from the Fernow side: Ashley (Kyle) Lieske, A.J. (Christina) Fernow, Taylor Fernow, Zachary Fernow and Great Grandchildren Lawson and Jayton Lieske.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at 11:00 AM, at the Oakland United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is assisting the family.
