(Audubon) Audubon and CAM get together in softball for game one of a doubleheader on KSOM Tuesday. The game will feature live video coverage at WesternIowaToday.com.
Both teams have been at or near .500 for most of the season. Audubon coach Eric Borkowski is expecting a solid challenge from CAM. “I expect them to be a good hitting ball club. They are going to field the ball and throw the ball well. They have two good pitchers in the circle.” Borkowski adds. “They are going to be sound all over the place. We just need to come and play and execute and do everything that we need to.”
The Wheelers have lost five game by one run this season. Coach Borkowski believes that says a lot about his team. “They never give up. They are always fighting even if we get down a few runs early in the game they always fight back which is always great to see.” Borkowski mentions, “Like I told them, it’s a good sign. That means we are competing and are in a lot of ball games. I also told them that this is an advantage to us. That we know how to handle it. These other teams that have always blown out teams and have never been in a close game, they may struggle. For us we are used to it.”
Victoria Asmus has been a bright spot in Audubon’s offense with a .407 batting average and 17 RBI. Kali Irlmeier and Alexis Obermeier have each been effective in the pitcher’s circle. Obermeier has logged 67 1/3 innings with 84 strikeouts, a 3.01 ERA, and .248 opponent batting average. Kali Irlmeier has a 6-2 record with a 1.66 ERA. The junior has struck out 74 batters in 63 1/3 innings pitched.
