A funeral service for Joyce Petersen, 86, will be held at the First Baptist Church in Harlan on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at 11am. The service will be livestreamed and a link will be available on the funeral home website prior to the service. Visitation with Family will be Monday, June 20th from 6-8pm at the First Baptist Church in Harlan. Burial is in the Clay Township Cemetery at 2 pm on June 21st, 2022. Joyce Petersen, 86, of Elk Horn, Iowa, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 17, 2022, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, IA.
Joyce Ann was born on November 26, 1935, in Manchester, IA, the daughter of Charles & Lucille (Annear) Baker. Joyce accepted Jesus as her savior at age 13 and baptized not long after at First Federated Church. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines in 1954. Joyce attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa in 1956-57 for Home Economics. She was friends with Lynn’s sister, Julie, at First Federated Church and then met Lynn when he came home from the service.
Joyce was united in marriage with Lynn G. Petersen on June 6, 1958, at First Federated Church in Des Moines, IA. They were blessed with 3 children. The couple made their home in Los Angeles, CA, then Denver, CO, and finally they purchased a farm in Clay Township near Elk Horn in 1965.
Joyce enjoyed serving her family in any way she could. She went to lots of music concerts, ball games, walked the beans, brought lunch out to the field, etc. She loved sewing, baking cookies, spending time with family, and always enjoyed serving snacks to the grandkids.
She was a member at First Baptist Church in Elk Horn and later a member of First Baptist Church in Harlan. Joyce was active in Rorbeck Happy Homemakers for many years as well as various women’s ministries at the First Baptist Church in Elk Horn.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lynn G. Petersen; parents, Charles and Lucille Baker; and brother, Dick Baker of AZ.
Joyce is survived by her 3 children, 14 grandchildren, and 5 great- grandchildren: Brian (Lisa) Petersen of Rochester, MN and their children Andrea (Gabe) Orem, Jenna Petersen, and Reed (Ruby) Petersen; Kim (Jeff) Mossman of Conrad and their children Melissa (Joel) Graber and their children Hazel and Micah, Clarke (Shelby) Mossman and their children Esther and Joy, Emily (Mitchell) Fast and their child Lyla, Jacob Mossman, Kaylynn Mossman, Jazmyn Mossman, and Skye Mossman; Kevin (Carrie) Petersen of Elk Horn, and their children Kendall (Kayla) Petersen, Kyle Petersen, Noah (Tessa) Petersen, and Ella Petersen; and brother Curt (Shirley) Baker of Bethany, MO.
