(Avoca) AHSTW returns a lot of experience from last year’s 15-13 softball team.
The Lady Vikes will begin the year March 24th at Audubon. Coach Trevor Gipple says, “I am so excited to get going with this group. They’ve put a lot of work in this offseason. They’ve bought into the system. I know they are hungry. Just looking forward to getting on the field and ironing some things out and getting to work.”
Ally Meyers hit .400 with 14 RBI and 23 runs scored last season. Natalie Hagadon, Graycen Partlow, and Grace Porter were regular starters that all carried batting averages over .300. “We have a ton of sticks. Grace Porter is a returning All-Conference player with a big bat. Natalie Hagadon is a senior. We kind of call her Miss Clutch. She’s always there in the moment and produces. Then you have some younger ones with Graycen Partlow, Sienna Christian, Ally Meyers is always good. I’m really excited for the offense.”
Kailey Jones is the only senior they lost and she handled the majority of the pitching duties. However, Ally Meyers struck out 37 batters and walked 10 in 45 2/3 innings pitched last year. Sienna Christian had 58 K’s and walked 29 in her 42 2/3 innings in the circle. “Ally Meyers is a senior this year and she’s back. She’s put a lot of time in. A young kid, Sienna Christian, had some varsity innings last year. I plan on using her and I’ve got another freshman, Loralei Wahling. She is looking really good in our open pitching mornings. All three of those you can plan on seeing in the circle and hopefully throwing some strikes for us.”
