(Council Bluffs) The Lewis Central Boys captured the team title at their home golf tournament at Fox Run on Thursday. The Titans shot 338, and Atlantic finished second with 340.
Lane Nelson led the Trojans with a 79 and finished fourth in the ten-team tournament. Garrett McLaren was fourth with an 83, and Cruz Weaver carded an 86 and finished seventh overall. Roth Den Beste shot 92, Cooper Jipsen, 94, and Tristan Hayes finished with a 101.
“Once again, a cold and windy day for golf at Fox Run,” said Atlantic Head Coach Ed Den Beste. “ Going into this meet, we knew we could play better and had a good shot of winning it. We figured it would come down to LC, St Alberts, Glenwood, and ourselves for 1st place.
“Lane Nelson continued his good play. Garrett McLaren also played pretty well and needs to see him get into the ’70s,” said Coach Den Beste. “Cruz Weaver has picked up his game, and it’s good to see him in the mid-’80s. Roth had a tough start but came back and finished ok. Cooper shot his best this year, and Tristan had a lot of struggles today. Hopefully, he can fix a few things and get it back to where he can compete for the top four.”
Atlantic travels to Denison on Tuesday, April 19, for a Junior Varsity/Varsity Dual match.
