(Atlantic) The Atlantic girl’s track team starts competition this Thursday at the Iowa Track Coach Association Indoor track meet in Ames.
Twenty-seven athletes reported to the Trojan Track Team this season, including five state qualifiers and nine letter-winners. The squad returns one senior, eight juniors, eight sophomores, and ten freshmen.
Head Coach Matt Mullenix’s program is sprint-based, which means they get after it from the get-go. The core sprinters group include; Chloe Mullenix, Maddie Huddleson, Jada Jensen, Aubrey Guyer, Morgan Botos, Claire Pellett, Callie Pellett, Ava Rush, and A.J. Knuth.
Mullenix says the goal is to build an overall athlete.
Coach Mullenix’s middle-distance group is led by returning state qualifier Ava Rush and senior Addison DeArment.
Coach Mullenix also welcomes back Claire Pellett, Claire Wiederstein, Mariah Hadley, Mariah Huffman, and Hailey Huffman.
The two returning throwers are; Alexis Jimenz-Russell and Abby Richter.
The Trojans compete in Ames on Thursday, March 10, and Northwest Missouri State University on Saturday, March 19. The Trojans open up the outdoor season on March 31 at Denison.
