(Atlantic) Carson Seuntjens scored 16-points to lead Denison/Schleswig over Atlantic 66-53 in a Hawkeye Ten Conference boy’s basketball game at Atlantic on Monday night. The Monarchs avenged a 69-61 loss to the Trojans on February 4.
Carter Pellett scored 14-points for Atlantic, Ethan Sturm, 12, Colton Rasmussen, and Jackson McLaren, each scored 8-points, Dayton Templeton, 7, and Caden Andersen, 4.
The two played even in the first quarter, with the Monarch’s holding a slight edge 13-12. Denison/Schleswig gradually pulled away, building a ten-point lead (35-25) at the break. Carson Seuntjens and Aiden Schuttinga knocked down two critical three-point baskets during the 22-13 second-quarter run. It was the second quarter that separated the two Hawkeye Ten conference foes.
Carter Pellett drew the hot hand for the Trojans in the third quarter with seven points, and Sturm fired in five counters to keep the Trojans in step with the Monarchs and shrink the visitors lead to eight points, 49-41 at the end of three periods.
Denison/Schleswig turned up the heat again in the final frame, extending their lead to 66-49 at one point late in the fourth quarter. The Monarchs capitalized with 4-4 free throws shooting down the stretch and polished off the night with the win 66-53.

The Monarchs finish the Hawkeye Ten Conference season at 7-3 and a third-place finish behind 9-1 and co-champs Lewis Central and Harlan. Atlantic ends the season at 4-6 in the conference in a sixth-place tie with Clarinda.
On Monday night, February 21, the Trojans open up tournament play at Bishop, Heelan. Denison/Schleswig is at home against Lewis Central.
