(Denison) The Iowa Department of Public Safety overseeing the Iowa State Patrol is currently taking applications for an upcoming academy scheduled for this July.
Iowa State Patrol Trooper and District #4 Public Information Officer says Shelby McCreedy says the State Patrol is requesting those interested in serving in law enforcement to visit their website at DPScareers.com.
Before the early part of 2000, Trooper McCreedy says the Iowa State Patrol employed 410 Troopers statewide, with one Trooper stationed in all 99 counties.
During that time, Troopers retired, and following 911, the State Police lost many Troopers to the Federal Government.

The Iowa State Patrol’s jurisdiction runs border to border and covers numerous situations.
There is a six-month hiring process. The positions included a Trooper 1 who must be at least 18-years old and assigned to the Capitol Complex in Des Moines. Trooper 2’s must be at least 22-years old and patrol the roads and numerous situations.
Trooper McCreedy says a college degree is recommended but not required to be an Iowa State Patrol Trooper.
