
(Avoca) Stanton never trailed in a 57-42 victory over AHSTW in girls basketball on Thursday. The 12th rated Viqueens improve to 9-0 on the season.
Stanton got 20 points from Leah Sandin, 15 for Jenna Stephens, and Marleigh Johnson scored 12. They hit 17/23 from the free-throw line. AHSTW’s offense saw 14 points for Ella Langer and 11 out of Delaney Goshorn. Ellie Peterson scored 9 and Rylie Knop finished with 8.
Stanton led 18-7 after one quarter. They used a quick 5-0 run to turn their 9-5 lead into a 14-5 advantage. They would lead by an eight to 12 point window for most of the rest of the game before stretching the advantage to as large as 18 late in the contest.
AHSTW drops to 4-6 on the season and will play Tri-Center on Friday night. Stanton’s next outing is Tuesday against Sidney.
