(Atlantic) SHIFT ATL President Jessie Shiels says the money generated from the Atlantic Rotary Club’s Annual Auction will help fund numerous projects. The Rotarians 38th annual auction generated $35,400.00 for non-profit community projects. The raffle generated around $4,000 to go towards SHIFT ATL.
“We are super grateful to Rotary for choosing SHIFT ATL as the beneficiary of the raffle,” said Shiels. “This is a huge amount of money we can use for some of our upcoming projects.”
SHIFT ATL launched its non-profit status in 2019 and purchased and renovated the former Downtowner Building into an upstairs Airbnb.
“We have contacted a design firm to paint a mural on the side of our building,” explained Shiels. “We’ve placed a down payment, and the Rotary money will help cover the rest of the money needed to complete this mural.”
This fall, Shiels says SHIFT ATL created Excel ATL at the Atlantic High School. “We have an amazing, dedicated group of high school students supporting SHIFT ATL and coming up with ideas we can implement into this community,” said Shiels. “One thing talked about is the lack of an art program at the high school so that this mural couldn’t have come at a better time. This Winter, we will finalize the design of the mural. This spring, an artist will work with our high school students and have them help us create the mural on the side of the building.”
SHIFT ATL is also working with the Atlantic Park and Recreation Department to construct two sand volleyball courts at the Schildberg Recreation Area next to the campground.
