(Red Oak) The Red Oak Police Department reports three non-injury accidents.
The first accident occurred on October 22 at 7:03 a.m. in the 700 block of E Sunset Avenue. Ricky Nease, 66, of Red Oak, was driving a 2016 Jeep Cherokee, and had backed out of his driveway into a legally parked 2020 Ford Fusion. Nease told authorities he did not see the vehicle. The estimated damage to Nease’s Jeep was estimated at $1,500. The estimated damage to the Ford Fusion was estimated at $5,000. Nease was cited for No Insurance – Accident Related.
The second accident occurred on October 24th at 2:10 a.m. at 3rd and Reed Street. The morning of October 24th, an officer was approached by a subject at Hy-Vee asking what had happened on the square at 3rd and Reed Street. The subject advised there was a Dodge truck that appeared to have struck the concrete flower box and there was debris all over. The officer notified dispatch and headed to that location. Once on scene, the officer noticed the debris and a black 2014 Dodge Ram parked next to the curb to the west of N 3rd Street on E Reed Street. The truck was missing the passenger side front wheel and the air bags had been released. The officer ran the plate and had dispatch contact the registered owner. The owner of the truck, 31-year-old Tabetha Smith of Red Oak, met the officer on scene and advised that she and her brother were at the Red Oak Tap and they had left the bar at around 2 a.m. Smith advised she was driving westbound on E Reed Street and was talking to her brother and it was raining. She said she was not paying attention and struck the concrete flower box. Smith said she pulled the truck over so it was legally parked. She stated her brother picked up most of the truck parts and put them in the bed of the truck and they left the truck until they were notified by dispatch later that morning. The truck was removed by tow service and is considered a total loss. No citations have been issued at this time.
The third accident occurred at 8:45 this (Monday) morning at Highway 48 and W Oak Street. Bailie Preston, 30, of Atlantic, was driving a 2019 Dodge Van eastbound, slowing as she approached the intersection, but was districted by her child in the back seat. The van did not come to a complete stop and hit the back of a 2020 Freightliner, driven by 67-year-old Kenneth Hamman of Red Oak, who was stopped at the stop light.
