(Atlantic) The Atlantic Community School District upgraded the Aviation program. The district implemented the aviation program into the curriculum three years ago to provide a four-year program.
Atlantic Schools Superintendent Steve Barber says recently; the district invested in three new FAA-approved simulators to be utilized by high school students. The simulators currently in use at the high school will be moved down to the six grade students and used for the exploratory program, “Science of Flight,” a six-to-seven-week program now offered to sixth-grade students
Currently, three students are in year three of the original program, and Barber says more students are needed to grow numbers in this program. On Thursday, the level one students built hot air balloons and took them for a test drive in the high school gymnasium.
