(Des Moines) The National Weather Service in Des Moines issued frost and freeze warnings and advisories from 1:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Friday for most of the state, including southwest Iowa.
Temperatures are forecast to fall to as low as 30-degrees in some areas.
The frost and freezing conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes, they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground lines to protect them from freezing.
