(Audubon) Linemen never seem to get the credit they deserve. One of the best in the area the past couple of seasons has been Audubon’s Joey Schramm.
The Wheeler senior will be a halftime guest during KSOM and WesternIowaToday.com’s broadcast of the CAM at Audubon matchup on Friday. He’s ok with the fact that a lot of his teammates are the ones getting their names called. “It really doesn’t bother me. It’s something I always liked it since I started football. I’ve always liked going and hitting people and being physical so I just really love my job on the team.”
Audubon has a deep group of linemen and their competition in practice has helped them all get better. Schramm comments on the guys that he goes head to head with in practice. “One of the guys is definitely Alex Foran our starting center. He doesn’t play any defense so it’s really nice for me as a varsity nose guard to go against a varsity caliber center every day at practice. Jordan Schrader is also a good center that we have that has played varsity and has some experience. He really helps make me better and I hope that I make them better too.”
Schramm commands a lot of attention from opposing offensive lines. Often times if he doesn’t make the tackle, he at least played a part in making a stop. “It’s always good when you can help and you know that you made a difference even if you didn’t get in on the play. You know that you took up an extra guy that could have been blocking someone else. When you see them get free it’s always a good feeling to know that even if you didn’t make the play directly you influenced it.”
