(Anita) 7th rated CAM downed Fremont-Mills in a non-conference baseball game on Tuesday by a final of 12-4.
The Cougars posted nine hits and ten walks in the victory. It comes on the heals of back-to-back setbacks against Lenox and Woodbine.
CAM threatened but didn’t score in the 1st. Connor McKee walked, stole 2nd, and went to 3rd on a passed ball. However, Fremont-Mills starter Tyler Johnson skated out of trouble by striking out CAM’s 2-3-4 hitters, all of which entered the game hitting .500 or better.
Cade Ticknor blooped a single to left to start off a four run 2nd. Ethan Follmann and Seth Hensley followed with singles plus Jack Follmann walked as the first four batters in the frame reached safely. Connor McKee added an RBI hit in the inning while Joe Kauffman brought in a run on a sac fly.
CAM added to their 4-0 lead in the 3rd. They drew four walks with two outs, prompted a pitching change, and benefited from some wild pitches to extend the edge to 7-0.
Cougar starter Colby Rich was nearly flawless through four plus innings, but ran into trouble late in the 5th. He fanned seven on the night before running into control issues. Fremont-Mills drew four consecutive walks with two outs, followed by an infield hit and another walk. This snugged things up to a 7-4 game.
Connor McKee came on in relief in the 5th and threw the final 2 1/3 innings. McKee allowed no runs on one hit and one walk. He struck out three.
CAM plated five more runs over the final two innings at the plate thanks to five more walks and three more hits. McKee led the offense with four hits, one walk, and two RBI. Jack Follmann walked three times and scored three runs. Seth Hensley also crossed the plate three times to go along with an RBI single, two steals, and a walk.
CAM goes to 11-3 ahead of a double dip with Whiting on Wednesday. Fremont-Mills, now 2-6, won’t see their schedule ease up one bit as they face Class 1A #6 St. Albert next.
