(West Des Moines) West Des Moines Valley’s Rob Chapman is the 2021 soccer recipient of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s Golden Plaque of Distinction Award. Rob was presented his award prior to the start of the Class 3A state title match June 11 at the Iowa Girls State Soccer Tournament at the Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines.
The IGHSAU Golden Plaque of Distinction Award honors the Iowa coach who has demonstrated a successful career while making notable contributions toward school, community and the coaching profession.
Chapman has been the West Des Moines Valley High School girls’ soccer coach for the last 25 years. He has compiled a 417-78 record. During his tenure, the Tigers have accumulated 17 state tournament appearances, six state championships, and 16 conference titles. In 2008, Chapman received the National Coach of the Year award, while his team finished the season ranked number seven in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America rankings. His six state titles ranks first on Iowa’s all-time list.
Chapman was also the assistant coach at Grand View College from 2009-to-2010, and Simpson College from 2010-to-2014. He currently teaches Physical Education at Westridge Elementary School. Chapman and his wife, Beth have two children; Tommy and Taylor.
