(Griswold) The Harlan girls track team won the team title at the Trojan relays at Griswold on Monday night. The Cyclones scored 148.50 points, Glenwood second, 134, and Atlantic finished third with 124 in the 10 team field.
Harlan won eight events, including wins in the 4×200, 4×400, 4×800, and Shuttle Hurdle Relays. Liv Freund won the 800 meters, Kia Bieker topped the field in the 1500 meters, Ashley Hall in the long jump, and Justine Buman in the 100-meter hurdles.
Glenwood won the 4×100, Distance Medley, and High Jump.
For Atlantic, Haley Rasmussen finished first in the 200, 400-meters, Caroline Pellett second in the 100-meter hurdles, and Ava Rush finished second in the 800 meters in a season-best time of 2:28.64. The Trojans finished second in the 4×400 and 4×800 meter relays.
“I thought we had some good performances, and our competitive level was a bit higher than it has been the past couple of weeks, which I”most pleased with,” said Atlantic Head Coach Matt Mullenix. “We performed well in windy conditions, and I think we set ourselves up for the Conference meet on Thursday. There were some things that didn’t go well, and I think the girls are disappointed, and that’s good. We’re excited and ready to go on Thursday.”
Lewis Central opened the meet with a win in the 800 Meter Sprint Med. in a time of 1:56.78. Sophia Glassnap, Avery Heller, Atziri Medina, and Maddie Bergman carried the baton for the Titans. St. Albert’s Reese Duncan topped the field in the 3000 Meters (11:55.08), and Harlan raced out to a big lead in the 4×800 and finished strong with Kia Bieker, Liv Freund, Jenna Gessert, and Brecken Van Baale (10:24.55 ). The Cyclones followed with a first-place finish in the Shuttle Hurdle Relay, with Justine Buman, Aubri Smith, Ally Curren, and Lucy Metzger(1:14.77), giving the Cyclones a narrow lead over Glenwood 49.5 to 49.
Mallory Bergman of Lewis Central sprinted to the win in the 100 meters (12.90), and Emma Hughes anchored Glenwood to a first-place finish in the Distance Medley (4:24.52). The three other team members were Marissa Ausdemore, Jenna Hopp, and Abby Hughes.
Haley Rasmussen, Atlantic, followed with a win in the 400-meters (1:03.85), and Ashley Hall ran a strong anchor for Harlan in the 4×200 meter relay and rallied past Lewis Central at the finish line. The Cyclone team of Delaney Wegner, Grace Eckermann, Lilly Metzger, and Hall clocked a 1:51.69. Lewis Central finished a close second in a time of 1:51.78.
Justine Buman edged Caroline Pellett of Atlantic in the 100-meter hurdles in 17-01. The win pushed Harlan back into the lead over Glenwood 93.50 to 93.
Liv Freund put ten additional points on the board for the Cyclones in the 800 meters (2:27.86), Ava Rush of Atlantic was close behind in a season-best time of (2:28.64). Rasmussen followed with a win in the 200 meters in a time of 26.48.
Harlan continued to lead the pack with 112.50 points, Glenwood, 101, and Atlantic knocking on the door with 99, with four events remaining.
Abby Lasale, of Council Bluffs, Abraham won the 400-meter hurdles (1:08.41), and Kia Bieker, of Harlan, topped the field in the 1500 meters (5:01.07).
Glenwood and Harlan finished one-two in the 4×100 meter relay. The Rams running, Zoie Carda, Marissa Ausdemore, Jenna Hopp, and Coryl Matheny, (52.34). Harlan’s quad included; Justine Buman, Delaney Wegner, Lilly Metzger, and Ashley Hall (52.38).
The Cyclones capped off the meet with the winning 4×400 meter relay team (4:11.91 ), with Freund, Metzger, Bieker, and Van Baale.
In the Field events, Ashely Hall, of Harlan won the long jump (16-07.00), Coryl Metheny of Glenwood won the high jump (4-10), and Kelsey Fields of Creston swept the throws. Fields threw the shot put (42-04.00) and heaved the discus (132-02).
