(Guthrie Center) After 30 year in coaching, ACGC wrestling coach Shawn Danker has submitted his resignation.
It is time for a new chapter for coach Danker whose son Seth is a senior this year and has committed to wrestle at Cornell. “It was quite a thought process, but it definitely was the time to step down and let somebody else take the reigns.”
Danker’s coaching journey started when he was still in college and he’s been in it in a full-time capacity for the past 28 seasons. “Oh obviously I’ll miss the kids. And I’ll miss all the other relationships I made with coaches, but the kids and helping kids reach their goals and aspirations. Just trying to make them better people and better athletes. That’ll be tough.”
Whoever succeeds him will be in good position to have success. “I would say it’s an attractive spot. Great tradition, good quality kids here, hard workers, people that want to be successful, and we have great programs throughout. Football is up and coming with a great tradition there and a brand new weight training facility.”
While he’s retiring from being the head wrestling coach, he’ll continue to teach and won’t completely disappear from the coaching scene in other sports.
