(Guthrie Center) ACGC girls track coach Colin Shawgo says the Chargers have a lot of girls returning to the program this season. They open the season March 29th at Greene County.
ACGC looks to be strong in several areas, especially their distance group. Coach Colin Shawgo says, “Jorja Hoover and Rylee Sloss are two seniors are two seniors that had a really strong cross country season. They are really excited to get their 800’s going since they had it stolen from them last year. They’ll be joined by two other seniors Audrey Stowe and Sophie Danker that have both had success in that area as well.”
Coach Shawgo points out they have a lot of quality in the field events. “We have an excellent thrower in Mady Kelsey who is looking to make a state berth. We have high jumper Chloe Largent who is probably one of the best athletes all around female athletes in the school. She just missed the podium two years ago and she’s looking to do some exciting things. Then we have a ton of underclassmen and freshmen that are excited to really show their skills and what they are capable of doing and bringing to the team.”
He adds they have the strongest core of sprinters since he’s taken over as head coach. “A big part of our practices right now are trying to get in shape while also getting a lot of technical stuff in that we normally cover in the first two weeks.”
Shawgo says the team hopes to push Panorama for a West Central Activities Conference title this year and compete with the likes of Van Meter and Earlham. They’d also like to get 10 or more events to the state meet, which is something they’ve never done before.
